Please have a look at recent publication from SDA-Lab. It is a collaboration between University College DublinKyoto University and University of Nottingham, and the work of my former PhD student Dr Paul Fitzgerald. This paper investigates a vibration-based bridge scour monitoring method applicable to multispan bridges with shallow pad foundations, where scour is modelled as a stiffness loss at a given foundation. A scour monitoring strategy based on detecting relative changes in pier mode shape amplitudes is proposed, as derived from output-only modal analysis of a bridge under vehicle loading. A mean-normalised mode shape is created, which shows high sensitivity to scour at various locations of the bridge. The approach is experimentally trialed in this paper on a scaled-model bridge at Kyoto University. Paper available: https://ascelibrary.org/doi/10.1061/%28ASCE%29BE.1943-5592.0001586
