Mr. Robert Corbally who is a PhD student at SDA-Lab, received the best student paper award in bridge stream at Civil Engineering Research in Ireland Conference on Friday, 26th of August 2022. The conference was jointly held at TU Dublin and Trinity College. He received the award from Prof. Roger West. Robert’s paper was about a study he carried out as part of his PhD about vehicle contact-point response for bridge condition monitoring. He employed a laboratory scale vehicle interaction model to test the concept. He experimentally showed that that changes in bridge frequency can be detected, with the contact-point response being more sensitive to damage than the signals measured on the vehicle.
